Cataracts and New Technology Implants

PRESBYOPIA

Over time, the natural lens of the eye hardens, which prevents it from focusing as it once did. This inability to focus, or accommodate, is called presbyopia and its earliest symptom is difficulty reading or seeing things that are close up--typically, the solution was bifocals or reading glasses.

CATARACTS

A cataract occurs when the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy, usually causing blurry vision and glare when driving at night. Cataracts are removed using ultrasound, though there is a common misconception that a LASER is used for this.

Many years ago, the only option was to remove the cataract, then use thick “coke bottle” glasses or a contact lens after surgery. More recently, intraocular lenses (IOLs or implants) became available. Traditional single vision (monofocal) IOLs help patients see well in the distance; however, near glasses or bifocals for reading are usually still required with this option.

NEW TECHNOLOGY IMPLANTS

At the Castleman Eye Center, we’re happy to provide the latest technology in cataract surgery: the crystalens, ReSTOR, and ReZoom lenses! Dr. Akler has been approved to use all three of the presbyopia-correcting IOLs, which reduce or eliminate dependence on glasses or contact lenses for distance, intermediate, AND near vision! These lenses are designed to provide multifunctional vision for patients who have a strong desire for greater independence from glasses or contacts. During your consultation, our ophthalmologists will determine if you’re a candidate, then recommend the lens they feel is best-suited for your lifestyle and activities.

The crystalens® works naturally with the eye's focusing muscle to rejuvinate the vision to a youthful state. It turns back time by mimicking the eye's natural process of focusing up close, far away, and everywhere in between. People who wish to be less dependent on glasses for distance, intermediate, and near vision are good candidates for the crystalens®. FDA Clinical Study crystalens® results showed that 98.4% of patients can read a newspaper AND pass their driver's test WITHOUT glasses and 100% of patients can see at intermediate distances WITHOUT glasses!

The ReSTOR® lens is specifically designed to provide a person with the ability to see objects far away, near, and everywhere in between. People who have had prior LASER eye surgery (including LASIK, PRK, Epi-LASIK, or any other corneal LASER eye surgery), may be acceptable candidates for the ReSTOR® lens, as long as their eyes are in good health.

The ReZoom™ lens is designed to treat cataracts and turn back the clock to restore much of your ability to see up close and at a distance. The ReZoom™ lens has a patented new design which creates multiple focal points, so you can see well at a variety of distances (near, intermediate, and far). In clinical studies, 92% of those who received the ReZoom™ lens reported wearing glasses either "never" or "occasionally."

Financing

We've made arrangements with Care Credit® to offer convenient payment plans for our patients. They offer:

  • No-interest payment plans up to 6 months.
  • Credit line for current and future procedures.
  • 100% financing - no down payment.
  • Low monthly payments - up to 60 months to pay at a low 11.9% annual percentage rate.
  • No annual fees and no prepayment penalties.
  • Flex Plans

A Flex Plan (FP) or a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is a benefit package option developed to provide you with flexibility and choice for healthcare including vision correction. Unlike your traditional medical benefits package, these plans are set up by your employer and they are tax sheltered. Each pay period, your FP or FSA dollars are withdrawn from your paycheck before taxes, which allows you and your dependents to use your health expense money without being taxed on it.

Will My Insurance Cover Vision Correction?

A few insurance companies do pay for all or part of vision correction procedures. You can check with your plan administrator, or we will be happy to make a copy of your insurance card and check coverage for you.

Call our office today at (800) 403-0060 to schedule your consultation and find out if you’re a candidate for a presbyopia-correcting IOL!
